Tree Plantation in Ahmedabad
Tree Plantation in Ahmedabad — Rooted Here Since 2014
CATCH Foundation started in 2014 as a cleanliness drive in one Motera housing society. Today, that same street-level network powers our tree plantation work across Ahmedabad.
CATCH Foundation did not start as a tree plantation NGO. It started in 2014 as a cleanliness drive in one Motera housing society. Over a decade later, that same street-level network now 250+ societies and 15,000+ families strong is what makes our tree plantation in Ahmedabad work.
If you want to adopt a tree in Ahmedabad, you are not funding a one-off event. You are joining a group of neighbours who have been doing this locally for years.
01
Why the City Needs This
Ahmedabad has less than one tree per person, according to the city's own social forestry department. That shows up as hotter summers and thinner shade on the street.
. The government has responded with its own large-scale sapling drives across the city and Gandhinagar. What we do is different in scale, not intent: fewer trees per project, planted denser, and watched over for years instead of one season.
02
Ashok Chakra Van, Our Current Project
Right now, our plantation site in the city is Ashok Chakra Van, working toward 30,000 trees. Every tree adopted here gets geo-tagged and mapped.
When you adopt a tree in Ahmedabad through us, you get its actual coordinates — not just a certificate that says “somewhere in Gujarat.” Three years of active maintenance follow, start to finish.
03
Why Motera
Our nursery is still based in Motera — the same neighbourhood the whole organisation grew out of. Our volunteers, our species selection, and the people who maintain these forests all come from the communities we plant in.That's been true since the first “Mera Swachh Motera” drive, and it's still true today.
04
What We Actually Plant
We stick to species that already know how to survive Ahmedabad's heat.
Neem
Gulmohar
Banyan
Peepal
Ashoka
Mango
Pomegranate
Indian Coral Tree
These are not picked simply for looks. Native trees need less water once established, handle local pests better, and settle into Gujarat's soil and rainfall patterns.
05
How We Plant
Our process — कैच – वन संरक्षण प्रणाली, adapted from the Japanese Miyawaki method — comes down to deep soil preparation, dense multi-layer native planting, and two to three years of hands-on care until a forest can look after itself.
It is the same method behind all 200+ of our forests nationwide, and here it holds up even through Ahmedabad's summers: over 90% of what we plant survives, well above what a standard one-day plantation drive typically manages.
06
What Your Adoption Actually Funds
It's fair to ask where the money goes, so here's the honest breakdown: your contribution covers the sapling itself, soil preparation and land readiness, the labour and support staff who plant and maintain the tree, and the technology behind tracking its exact location and progress for three years. Nothing about tree plantation in Ahmedabad is free — soil here needs real work before anything survives in it — and we'd rather you know that than assume a ₹30 sapling is the whole cost.
07
What Happens After You Adopt
Your tree is assigned a spot at Ashok Chakra Van and marked on our map.
It is planted using our standard soil-prep and multi-layer process.
You receive your digital certificate and the tree’s geo-tagged location.
Over three years, we water, weed, and replace it if needed — and send photo updates as it grows.
After three years, it is expected to be self-sufficient, and it keeps growing from there.
08
The Bigger Picture
Ahmedabad's tree cover problem is bigger than any one organisation can solve alone, and we are not pretending otherwise.Government-led efforts like the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's mass plantation campaigns are working at a scale we simply can't match.
What we add is the piece those large drives often can't prioritise: individual accountability. Every tree we plant has a name attached to it — yours — which tends to mean someone's actually checking on it three years later.
09
For Companies
We also work with businesses on CSR tree plantation in Ahmedabad and Gujarat, using the same native-species, long-term-maintenance approach at a larger scale.
If your company's sustainability plan includes CSR tree plantation, our team can talk through site options, costs, and how we report impact.
